Creating a Modern Kitchen in Reading

The Brief

Eva came to us looking to completely transform her outdated kitchen into a sleek, contemporary space that reflected her style and worked harder for her family. She wanted a modern handleless kitchen with a calming, sophisticated colour palette — high-end in finish, but warm and liveable. The goal was simple: a kitchen that looked like it belonged in a design magazine, but felt like home.

Our Approach to Kitchen Design in Reading

At Nuova Home, every kitchen project begins with a detailed consultation. We take time to understand how you use your space, what matters most to you, and how we can deliver the best possible result within your budget. For Eva's kitchen, we designed a full U-shaped layout that maximised storage and workflow, making the most of every available inch.

Solving What the Structure Presented

A handleless kitchen installation demands a higher standard of precision than a hardware-fitted alternative. Without handles to draw the eye and forgive minor variation, every door front must sit perfectly flush, every joint must be consistent, and every reveal must be exact. The discipline required at each stage of the installation — from setting out the carcasses to hanging the final door — is considerable.

01

Handleless Alignment

The push-to-open handleless format requires each door front to be set with absolute precision in all three axes. Any variation in reveal width, door plane, or hinge tension is immediately visible in a handleless design. Each unit was set individually and adjusted before the adjacent carcass was fixed.

03

Quartz Worktop Templating

The Calacatta quartz worktop was templated on site to the finished cabinet positions, with the sink cut-out, hob cutout, and all joint positions determined precisely before fabrication. Accurate templating is the foundation of a quartz installation with tight.

04

Splashback Panel Alignment

The full-height quartz splashback panels were designed to sit flush with the underside of the wall units above and the back edge of the worktop below. The reveals between adjacent panels were set to match the joint widths of the cabinetry, maintaining the visual continuity across the entire elevation.

05

Appliance Integration

The double oven and microwave tower required the housing unit to be framed and fixed at the correct height to bring each appliance to its designed ergonomic position. Electrical connections were first fixed at the precise position of each appliance opening during the pre-plaster phase, emerging exactly where needed on completion.

02

Floor-to-ceiling Cabinetry

Running cabinetry the full height of the room required the ceiling line to be checked and packed at every unit position. Wall units were set on a consistent datum from floor level, with scribing applied at the ceiling and cornice line to produce a continuous, unbroken finish across all elevations.

06

Large-Format Floor Tiling

Large-format stone-effect floor tiles demand an exceptionally flat and level substrate — any movement or undulation in the sub-floor is amplified at grout joints. The floor was prepared and levelled before tiling commenced, with tiles set from a central datum and cut precisely to each wall run without exposed cuts on the principal sight lines.

The Design

This stunning kitchen renovation is a masterclass in contemporary design, combining sophisticated sage green cabinetry with crisp white quartz worktops featuring elegant marble-effect veining. Every detail has been carefully considered — from the handleless, floor-to-ceiling cabinet doors that create a seamless, uninterrupted aesthetic, to the statement splashback that ties the entire space together with effortless elegance.

Key Design Features:

The Finishing Touches

The muted sage green palette feels both timeless and on-trend, bringing a sense of calm and warmth to the heart of the home. Paired with brushed steel appliances, an undermount sink, and a sleek pull-out tap, every element works in harmony to deliver a kitchen that is as beautiful to live in as it is to look at.

Form Meets Function

Practicality sits at the heart of this design. A full-height integrated appliance tower houses a double oven and microwave in a sleek, streamlined column, while a freestanding American-style fridge freezer adds bold visual presence without disrupting the flow. The cleverly designed utility area conceals a stacked washer-dryer within its own dedicated cabinetry, keeping everything organised and beautifully out of sight

Space, Light & Flow

Large format porcelain floor tiles reflect natural light flooding in through the generous window, making the kitchen feel spacious and airy. Recessed ceiling spotlights add a warm, modern ambience throughout the day and evening. The U-shaped layout maximises every inch of available space, delivering an abundance of storage and a comfortable, practical workspace — perfect for both everyday family life and entertaining.

The Standard We Hold Ourselves To

A handleless kitchen is an unforgiving installation. The absence of hardware means there is nothing to compensate for imprecision — every door front must be set correctly, every reveal must be consistent, and every joint between materials must be clean and tight. The quality of the result is a direct function of the care taken at every stage, from the flatness of the plaster behind the units to the gap tolerance on the final door adjustment.

At Nuova Home Improvements, kitchen installations are carried out by fitters who understand that the standard is set by the details that most clients will never consciously register — the evenness of the reveal on a run of twenty door fronts, the cleanness of the cut where the quartz meets the splashback tile, the alignment of the oven trim to the surrounding unit face. These are not refinements added at the end; they are the consequence of decisions made at the beginning, and the discipline maintained throughout.

This project is a demonstration of that approach in practice. Every photograph taken on site — from first fix through to completion — shows a build managed with care, sequenced with intelligence, and finished to a standard that gives this kitchen the longevity and character its owners deserve.
